Centre for International Law and Relations

The past two decades have seen an unparalleled advent of Globalization. This has contributed to quantitative and qualitative change in interaction amongst nations, corporations and other non-State actors in different parts of the world. The resultant issues, arguments and conflicts – all have necessitated regulation of relations amongst States and other international actors. International Law is the tool to study and regulate these International Relations. The last century has seen a lot of new challenges in the increased role of non-state actors, the emphasis placed on human rights, new approaches to the protection of the environment and mass migration waves, terrorism, etc. The Centre for Excellence in International Law and International Relations endeavours to analyse these challenges and the way in which international law responds to them.

  • The Centre is designed to act as a forum to promote research and teaching in International Law,
  • To encourage dialogue and disseminate information on significant areas and topical issues falling in the domain of International Law.
  • It places particular emphasis upon the following: –
    • Human Rights Law
    • International Trade Law
    • International Humanitarian Law; and
    • International Refugee Law.
  • The Centre is committed to collaborate with other organizations/ institutions/universities for purposes of spreading awareness and promoting research in matters of International Law.
  • The centre aims to initiate discussion and debate International Law and related areas through workshops, conferences and talks.


ICRC National Conference On IHL

To celebrate the Seventieth Anniversary of Geneva Conventions 1949, Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies organized a one day National Conference on International Humanitarian Law on 19th January 2019 in collaboration with International Committee of The Red Cross (ICRC), Regional Delegation – Delhi. The conference was graced by Honorable Mr. Justice Rajiv Shakdher as the Chief Guest and Mr. P K Malhotra, Former Secretary, Ministry of Law & Justice as the Guest of Honour. The plenary session was addressed by Dr. Sriniwas Burra, South Asian University and Dr. Shruti Bedi, Panjab University. The conference saw rich deliberations on the issues pertaining to IHL in four separate technical sessions which were, presided by Dr. Tasneem Minai, Jamia Hamdard University, Dr. Anuradha Saibaba, Head IHL-Unit, Delhi, Dr Vinay Singh, Indian Society of International Law and Dr. V K Ahuja, Delhi University. The target group for the conference were faculty members of law and research scholars. More than 65 abstracts were received from the conference and delegates from Delhi, Nagpur, Pune, Mumbai, Surat, Bangalore and Kolkata participated in the conference.
