International Workshop on the Emergence, Compliance, and Enforcement of Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act, 2013
On the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi, a two-day international workshop was organized by VSLLS which witnessed the participation of students, academicians, professionals, and scholars from the different states of India and also from different parts of the world including the United States of America, Netherlands, Canada, Japan, Singapore, and Bahrain.
The “International Workshop on the Emergence, Compliance, and Enforcement of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act, 2013”, was a novel effort by the Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies (VSLLS), VIPS, towards providing an opportunity to students, scholars, faculty, and other academicians of different fields of law to participate in deliberation and discourse about this emerging issue in our society.
The workshop was graced by esteemed Senior Advocates, founders of NGOs and organization as well as lawyer-entrepreneurs. Ms. Raina Khatri Tandon, the founder of Right2Rise and a certified POSH/POCSO Specialist & Human Rights Expert, shared her invaluable insights on the issue along with laying the foundation for the topic of the workshop. She delved into the practical aspects of sexual harassment at the workplace as well as at educational institutes. Mr. N Hariharan, Senior Advocate, Delhi High Court, took the participants of the workshop on the journey “From Guidelines to Legislation” of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act of 2013 with illuminating case laws and recent issues. Ms. Aparajita Amar, a certified Sexual Harassment at Workplace Diversity Advisor and Founder at Sexual Harassment Law Compliance Advisory (SHLC), shed light on the constitution of the Internal Committee and its implementation and discussed the challenges for employees and students with regard to the POSH Act & UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and students in higher education institution) Regulations, 2015. Mr. Vinay Garg, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, took an informative session which led to the audience becoming fully aware of the history of the reforms that evolved over the years.
