TIHAR JAIL PROJECT
The VIPS Legal Aid Clinic (VLAC) in collaboration with the North-West Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organized Tihar Jail visits for VSLLS students under the “Haq Humara Bhi Toh Hai @ 75” Campaign from November 1, 2022 to November 7, 2022.
The project was organized under the esteemed guidance of Mr. Manish Jain, Ld. Secretary, North-West District Legal Services Authority, Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Salpekar, Dean, VSLLS, and Dr. Leena Moudgil, Convenor, VLAC
An orientation session was conducted by North-West DLSA on October 31, 2022 where the students were briefed about the duties that they need to undertake during the project and the conduct that is expected to be followed during the jail visits.
Under this project, the students were assigned with mainly two tasks— firstly, to collect certain information about the prisoners and secondly, to ask them about any major problems that the inmates were facing inside the Jail. The students were able to gather information on different issues that the prisoners were dealing with, ranging from medical and mental health problems and so on.
The project gave the students an impactful insight on how the jail system works, how legal aid authorities work in prisons, what convicts go through while living in jails and a lot more. The students had a great, informative, and exquisite experience while working on this project.
