VSLLS Orientation Program 2019
An orientation was held for the fresh batch of law students on 17 August 2019 by Vivekananda School of Law and Legal studies. It was especially structured for law students as an introductory insight into the world of law. The audience comprised of entrants from all law courses; BA-LLB, BBA-LLB, and LLM. The program started with the Saraswati Vandana, an enthralling dance performed by our second-year students followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the guests. Thereafter, Dr. Rashmi Salpekar, Dean, VSLLS formally welcomed the chief guest Shri Justice M.M. Kumar.
The audience was then addressed by the chief guest, Shri Justice M.M. Kumar, former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir, President of National Company Law Tribunal. He introduced a law to the students as it was and emphasized on the realities and the actual functioning of the area. He stated that he perceived law as a profession where earnings were easy to come by, but achieving excellence was a much more pertinent issue and should be sought after actively. He believes that every person has a strong sense of justice imbibed in himself and has special qualities, and it was their duty to channelize and develop these qualities. To expand one’s horizon, he laid stress on active reading and recommended the reading of all supreme court judgments for an enhanced understanding of the law. He specially referred to the book “Understanding the Law” by Geoffrey Rivlin and emphasized the need for a legal dictionary, in order to become a more holistic lawyer. He ended the speech on a motivational note, encouraging the students to work hard, to be patient and believing in themselves, in order to be successful.
After his address, various law societies were called upon so that they may introduce the various clubs, societies, and activities which take place within the campus and are open to law students.
